I walk by store windows everyday and I always peer inside to see if there is anything new. Something pretty and shiny always catches my eye, making it hard to resist the temptation to buy it.
Looking through the glass, I always catch my reflection in the window. Sarah Rhoads wrote a post on self portraits last year that has made me think of pictures of myself in a different light. She pointed out that artists of all mediums have always created self portraits, not out of vanity, but to find a better grasp on their identities.
This might be something I will consciously try this year, maybe I will find something about myself that I never knew before.
I always peek at your posts and never say anything. Your work is extraordinary. Today's is especially so. I hope you find that something about yourself you never knew before.
I've always had this nagging feeling it's a case of narcissism, since I take shots of myself as well. That's an interesting thought, thanks for sharing =)
That is an interesting insight. While less romantic, the reason I have used myself as the subject or as a reference for a piece, be it a painting or an illustration, is simply convenience.
nowadays i'm a little uncomfortable with self portraits. When i was 18 i think i made tons of self portraits because i was afraid to ask other people to pose. I still like those pictures, and i'm glad i thought i was a good enough model myself :)
Wonderful photos and I really like the idea of discovering more about oneself through self portraits. I'm thinking I could be more brave and try this out.
i like this a lot..depth and beauty..

ReplyDeleteI always feel silly taking shots of myself in the mirror or in a window, but why should I? What you say is true, these things say a lot about us.
ReplyDeletenice! thanks for sharing Celine.
ReplyDeleteI tend to take lots of self portraits a lot. sometimes we need to remind others we are there too
ReplyDeleteVery nice photos!
ReplyDeleteI like that idea about self-portraits. Too bad taking pictures of myself eventually becomes an analysis of all that I don't like about my appearance.
ReplyDeleteYour photographs are amazing!
