India: part 1
India is the first place I have been to where I really felt culture shock.
Everything was foreign to me. It was an interesting feeling.
We spent the first half of the trip in New Delhi which was a level of noise and crowds I am not accustomed to. My priority was to buy some things to wear for the wedding and whatever else we do is a bonus. We didn't really do much else (we took it easy since we were travelling with Eloise) but walking down the street or riding in a car would be an adventure.
Eloise was calm and happily sitting in our arms the entire time. She had her first fever in India which gave us a scare, but she got better just in time for the wedding.
They say nothing can really prepare you for India and it is true. But now that we've had a little taste of it, we'd love to go back again some day.
Wow your photos from India look amazing! I'd love to visit with my camera one day! What an adventure!
ReplyDeleteAh I'm so excited to see you write about India, Celine. I know it can be a mess. I've lived in Mumbai all my life & I first visited the capital earlier this year, I found so much difference in the cities. For example, Delhi can be a lot more organized & overall posh (especially South Delhi) but Delhi on the whole in notoriously unsafe for women, while Mumbai is much better. I'm assuming you guys wore traditional clothes for the wedding? I can't wait to see more photos! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing this is North Delhi from the photos? Love the photos of the sugarcane juice walla, it's a sight I see so often but have never photographed.
These are beautiful photos, I have always thought I'd like to visit India, but sometimes I'm afraid I'm too set in my own habits.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine the cultural shock ! I would love to visit India... your photos show well the hustle and bustle of the city, it's fascinating.
ReplyDeletei just came from vietnam, and i wasn't sure if my next destination was India. now i'm sure. :) can you show us more? the photos are great...as usual :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos...makes me want to go to foreign places, too! I've never been somewhere where I felt a culture shock and I realize it's time to change this.
ReplyDeleteI lived just outside Delhi for 2 years as a teenager and felt like my soul bloomed there. It is so funny... everyone has their own India. I love India deep in the roots of my heart, the marrow of my bones, but it also frightens or even repulses me at times with its raw pain and humanity.

I can't even imagine how you travelled so far with such a young Eloise! Oh, and a fever struck?! Glad to hear she got through it just in time. That must've been difficult for all of you. Photos are beautiful, somehow you've managed to make things feel very calm!
ReplyDeleteIncredible photos, Celine! xx.
ReplyDeleteOh Celine!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you captured scenes of daily life in India. It's not absurd to see a motorcycle with a small child in front & mom & maybe baby on the back. i think that is my favourite photograph!
Let's get together with Lydia, drink chai, eat dougnuts and chat away. (:
These photos are really fantastic, Celine. You have such a great eye!
ReplyDeleteyour pictures are breathtaking! i have heard of a trip to india being sort of a culture shock, but i am also fully aware that people there are truly friendly and welcoming. i cannot wait to see the rest of your photo journey!
ReplyDeletei hope you get the chance to go back again soon, since you liked it so much.

That last photo stresses me out. I saw that scene in Dubai and Egypt too many times. A lady (with a baby!) on the back of a bike... and on heavily trafficked, high speed streets. What are they thinking?!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun trip! You're a hero for traveling to India with a newborn.
these are beautiful! anywhere in india is on my list.
ReplyDeleteI love these photos - especially the fourth down of the man lit up in his blue shop - gorgeous. India is definitely on my travel list, now more than ever.
ReplyDeletewaaaw amazing pics !! i'm planning to go there on january.
ReplyDeletei can't wait to read your next post :)

ReplyDeletej.
super cool photos Celine! I'd want to travel to India soon!!
ReplyDeletethis is my first visit to your blog and i loved these pictures! i live in lisbon, portugal and i traveled to india 4 years ago along with 4 girl friends and we loved it. however as we had all worked in angola for a few months we were already prepared for india and nothing really shocked us, though there were some places that i considered to be worse than angola. i'd love to go back though!
ReplyDeleteWe should start a group for Celine's that went to India in 2012. Or for Celine's that fell in love with it. Your pics are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. My fave place of travel EVAR! Miss it so much.
ReplyDeleteAmazing collection of images, they really seem to capture the essence of the place.
ReplyDeleteMy husband used to travel to India every second month for work, he has a bit of a love/hate relationship with the place. I never made it there, just as we were planning a trip together he's job role changed and he no longer went to India - even though he complained constantly about his trips there I think he misses the place. Maybe one day we will visit together...
