Looking back on Summer - Cape Breton Pt. 2

Today is the start of a new season on our calendar, one I always welcome after a hot summer. I am looking forward to cooler fall temperatures and for the leaves to put on an incredible show, but I am also sad to see this summer go. This summer was such a great one for our little family.

Looking back on our most memorable trip this summer, we did an easy hike in Cape Breton with the girls, but the views did not disappoint. Our cottage hosts told us about this little gem. We drove to White Point and walked towards the mariners cemetery. We were the only ones there and watching Eloise and Eden roam free was the best feeling in the world.

Farewell Summer 2016! Thank you for the adventures!

At The Edge Of The World - Cape Breton Pt. 1

We just came back from our biggest trip as a family of 4, our first one that required taking a short plane ride (Eden's first plane ride!) that took us to the edge of Canada. Originally I chose to go to Nova Scotia to be close to the ocean, but I surprised myself because the things I enjoyed the most was the long hikes we did. We spent 5 days in Cape Breton, but we could have easily stayed for 2 weeks. My dream would be to return in the fall to see the island show off its colours.

Our first hike was the Skyline Trail, which is probably the most famous trail in Cape Breton, and for good reason. It took an hour to hike to the trail, and I am so proud of Eloise because she did it all by herself. We walked right under the clouds, looked out for moose and bears, made wildflower bouquets and snacked on wild blueberries along the trail. Eden was strapped on my back, having a lovely nap the entire way and woke up just in time for the most incredible view at the end.

We took a short visit to the falls last week. Ellie was impressed with the amount of water and sea gulls she saw. But she was mostly interested in climbing and balancing on ledges. She is very in to climbing these days.

Even though it was a cold, wet, and cloudy day, the falls looked beautiful with snow around it (even the dirty layered snow that looks like sedimentary rock). But the sun peaked out for a moment and Ellie saw her first rainbow. We all squealed of course.

I have been to Niagara a few times this year already, including once for a really fun wedding. I'm excited to share it with you soon!

A good friend from France stopped by for a day in Toronto over the weekend. We decided to go adventuring on the Island. Adventuring at a 2 year old's pace that is, which can be really slow at times. The ferry ride was the highlight for Ellie, she was so excited by the wind and water of the lake.

We didn't get very far on the island and sadly, the bicycle booth was not open for the season yet. I was really hoping to ride a quadricycle! I still got to show off my favourite view of Toronto! It is finally starting to feel like spring, I'm really looking forward to bringing our bikes on the island this summer for some more island picnics.

Ellie woke up from her nap that day saying "boat", she must have been dreaming of the water and the ferry!
