Vag Halen for Frankie Magazine

My last shoot of 2014 was for Toronto's hard-rocking all female Van Halen cover band Vag Halen, for their feature in Frankie Magazine. I just got my copy in the mail and was thrilled to see it in print!

I have some exciting news to share with you!

Awhile back, the talented Jennifer Young approached me to contribute to a book she was writing - Picture Perfect Social Media. The book is aimed for those looking to improve their photography skills in a comprehensible, not-too-technical way. Something I can totally relate to as I still remember the first time I picked up an SLR camera and how intimidating all those controls seemed. But the great thing about this book is that it shows you that you don't need a fancy camera to take great photos.

I am so honoured to have my work and words in Jennifer's book but also so humbled to be along side the other incredibly talented contributors for this book - Tara O'Brady, Oana Befort, Dabito, Leila Peterson, Michelle Lau , guremike - each artist lending their words of wisdom on their area of photography expertise. I definitely learned some good tips by reading Jennifer's words and what the other contributors had to say.

Congratulations Jennifer, on your first book! I am so happy for you!

I loved working on this with Scott, Ashley and Smith Journal, and a huge thanks to Melissa for assisting me on this shoot.

Volume 8 was just released today! I can't wait to get mine in the mail!

(Also, if you are a lover of maple syrup, you should try some Drip maple syrup, it's incredible!)

thanks Smith Journal for the photos of these spreads!

I had the best time this past weekend at the Toronto Kinfolk retreat, part of the magazine's dinner series that take place in a few spots across North America. Jin, Eloise and I feel so lucky to be part of it.

Graciously hosted at Juli and John's beautiful lakeside cottage, we spent the entire day swimming in the lake, preparing and eating good food and enjoying eachothers company. It was the perfect summer day spending time with old friends and meeting new ones as well.

A huge thank you to Julie for organizing this, as well as Nikole. In my humble opinion, it was a huge success.

reading with cats

The cats gathered around as I opened this lovely package I received from Nathan in the mail. I think they sensed how excited I was to take a peak at the first issue of Kinfolk Magazine.

Nathan compiled an amazing group of people for the first issue; I have read all the articles, poured over every image and I am so inspired by each piece. Congratulations to everyone involved!

I was lucky to be part of the first issue in a small way. My photo of a house from our travels is placed at the end for farewell. I quite love it in that spot.

I spent the evening reading through the magazine with the cats sitting close by. I mentioned before that I never really had success getting Mea and Mojo in the same photograph together but for one reason or another, they both decided to sit with me that day. I loved that I was spending time with my cats while reading about time spent with yourself, or with loved ones.
