laundry

laundry

A few days ago, I pinned an image that leads to a tutorial on how to make your own laundry detergent! I was so intrigued.

As I read the post, I was even more intrigued because it didn't sound like a difficult task at all. I was happy to find that I already had 2 out of 3 ingredients in my home. I couldn't find the soap they used (Fels-Naptha) but I read that Dove or Ivory soap would work as well.

I used it on a few loads of laundry already and I think it works! Mostly, I felt proud that I made something because I haven't made anything in a quite awhile!

You should try it!

  3. You tried it! I want to give it a try too! I think you can get Fels Naptha in Kensington Market. If I find it, I'll pick you up a bar too!

  4. thank you for posting this! I saw a tutorial recently for making a liquid version, but it made about a gallon of goopy sludge at a time, so it wasn't really for me, haha. I remember the ingredients being similar, though, and the poster later updated with a homemade vs tide detergent test, and apparently the homemade held up! I'll definitely have to try this!

  6. Celine, that's so cool. Of course, I have to ask about the white lid on your canning jar... Is it a plastic screw top? Where did you get it?

  11. yay! love that more people are making their own. i posted about laundry detergent a while back too: http://myfoodobsessions.blogspot.com/2011/03/thursday-thrift-laundry-soap.html but honestly, your detergent container looks so much cuter than mine.

  14. Hi everyone! I hope you all get to try this! It was fun to make and it only took 5 minutes!

Melinda! awe* thanks! I should check in kensington myself too!

Claudia! the liquid soap seems really involved and complicated! So glad that this one stands up to the tide! Thanks for letting me know! I am definitely using this from now on!

Karyn! I got the plastic cap at the canning section at Canadian Tire (or you can check the grocery store too!). It is for using after you've opened up your preserved goods as the metal canning jars will rust over time.
